Boost Your Bust with a Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation is a safe and effective way to enhance the appearance of a woman’s breasts. There are many reasons that a patient chooses to have breast enlargement. These range from hypomastia (small breasts), the effects of pregnancy and breastfeeding, weight loss, the normal aging process, and pre-existing asymmetries. Breast enlargement often gives women a boost in confidence as well as an overall higher self-esteem after breast augmentation.
If you are interested in breast enlargement, contact Frisco Plastic Surgery today. Am I a Good Candidate for Breast Augmentation?
Breast augmentation can improve your overall appearance and how you feel about yourself. If you have realistic expectations and are in good health, you are probably a good candidate for the procedure. The best candidates for breast enlargement are those who want to enhance the shape and size of their breasts but also understand the possible risks involved.
For a personalized plastic surgery consultation concerning candidacy for breast enhancement and augmentation, contact our office in Frisco near Plano. Dr. Smart will sit down with you, examine you, and discuss whether or not you are a good candidate for the procedure.
Designing Your Treatment
The breast augmentation procedure involves placing a saline or silicone implant into the breast to change both the shape and size of the breast. Silicone breast implants are approved FDA for cosmetic use.
There are a couple of different incisions that may be made to place the breast implant, depending on which type of implant you use. Dr. Smart can help you decide which type of implant will best fit your needs, give you the most natural results, and help ensure that you reap all the benefits of breast augmentation.
Types of Incisions
Dr. Smart places breast implants through three different incision locations:
- The periareolar incision is the incision around the nipple. It is a very popular incision location due to the fact it is almost not noticeable once it heals.
- The inframammary incision is located at the bottom of the breasts and is also camouflaged very well.
- The transaxillary incision is a good choice for women who do not want any incisions placed on the breasts. This incision is in the armpit and leaves no scars on the breasts
Incision placement is determined by several factors including anatomy, type of implant, and patient preference.
Dr. Smart carefully analyzes the characteristics of each patient’s skin and breast tissue to determine the correct placement of breast implants. Most saline and silicone implants are placed under the muscle to provide an extra layer of protection.
During your breast augmentation consultation at our Frisco office, Dr. Smart will
- Discuss your goals and expectations for your surgery, focusing on any prior breast problems or breast enlargement surgery.
- Ask you about your family history of breast cancer and whether or not you have had any prior mammograms.
- Perform a physical examination carefully analyzing the characteristics of your skin and breast tissue.
- Take several measurements that aid in planning your surgery and will also determine if you are a candidate for a breast lift as well.
You'll then look at multiple different styles and sizes of implants to determine the size that is appropriate for you. Remember that it is helpful to bring photographs of women with breasts similar to the size that you would like to have.
What to Expect during Treatment
Dr. Smart typically uses general anesthesia for breast augmentation surgery. Your surgery is performed in a fully accredited outpatient surgery center located conveniently in Dr. Smart's professional building. You will have nothing to eat or drink the morning of surgery except specific medications as prescribed by Dr. Smart.
Breast implants can give a woman a full bust, allow clothes to fit better, and boost self-confidence .
Typically, you will arrive at the surgery center one hour before your surgery. A board-certified physician anesthesiologist will meet you and take your history before the anesthetic begins. Dr. Smart will also see you and mark you for your surgery.
After your surgery, you will be discharged home. You will need someone to drive you and be with you for the next 24 hours. You will be sent home in a bra compression garment that is easily concealed under your clothes and is worn for approximately four weeks. Four to five post-op visits will be required after your surgery.
Recovering after Breast Surgery
Breast augmentation recovery times will vary from patient to patient, but most women need between three and seven days off from work after surgery. Routine social activities can be resumed almost immediately. Light exercise can be resumed after about four weeks and full routines can be restarted after six weeks.
This medication dramatically reduces post-op pain and increases comfort by providing continuous release of local anesthetic to the surgical site.
Dr. Smart offers Exparel® for most of his patients undergoing breast enlargement at his Plano-area office. This medication dramatically reduces post-op pain and increases comfort by providing continuous release of local anesthetic to the surgical site.
Patients get back on their feet quicker and have an overall better operative experience. However, it is normal to experience tightness and heaviness on your chest for several days following your surgery.
