How To Maintain Your Results After Liposuction By Kenneth Smart Jr. on April 03, 2022

Stubborn fat can hang around the arms, hips, legs, or midsection, preventing people from enjoying their ideal figure.

Liposuction breaks down and removes fat deposits to improve body contours. When someone chooses to invest in liposuction treatment, they want to know that the results will last. Here, plastic surgeon Ken Smart offers tips that will assist his Frisco, Plano, and North Texas patients in maintaining liposuction results, so that they continue to feel confident and secure in their body.

Does Liposuction Get Rid of Fat for Good?

During a liposuction procedure, fat cells are broken down or liquified so that they can be suctioned out of the body. The fat that is removed during liposuction treatment is eliminated for good. However, people need to understand that the body can create new fat cells over time. In order to maintain liposuction results long-term, there are some steps that individuals should take to ensure they remain at a steady weight and continue to enjoy slim, toned body contours.

Eat a Well-balanced Diet

Diet is a factor that has one of the greatest effects on body weight and fat content. Liposuction patients do not have to completely deny themselves following their procedure, nor do they need to drastically reduce their calorie intake, but they should aim for a well-balanced diet. Ideally, individuals should limit the amount of sugars, simple carbohydrates, and saturated fats that they consume, and try to eat lean proteins, fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.

Lead an Active Lifestyle

Exercise is a great way for a person to promote their overall health and well-being, and preserve the results of a liposuction procedure. Some people struggle to fit exercise into their busy schedule, but even 30 minutes of activity a day can provide huge benefits. And it does not matter what type of exercise a person chooses. We encourage liposuction patients to find an activity that they enjoy, whether it be biking, hiking, running, kickboxing, etc.

Stay Well-hydrated

Staying well-hydrated is especially important when trying to maintain liposuction results. Water helps people keep their energy levels high and helps them avoid cravings or hunger pangs that can lead to unhealthy snacking. Additionally, individuals who are well-hydrated are likely to have higher metabolism levels and a healthier digestive system. People should try to drink at least 64 ounces of water a day, or eight full cups.

Eat Smaller Meals

As a whole society tends to spread out eating over three main meals: breakfast, lunch, and dinner. However, eating three large meals is not ideal. It is actually better to eat smaller meals more frequently throughout the day. Eating five to seven small meals can help in keeping energy levels high and avoiding cravings for foods that are high in fats and sugars.
