Ultrasonic Vaser Liposuction Technique

What Is VASER® Liposuction?
Like standard liposuction, VASER® liposuction is a body contouring procedure that allows Dr. Smart to tone problems areas of the body by removing localized pockets of fat. However, the ultrasonic VASER® liposuction technique utilizes the power of sound waves to give patients a gentler and more effective procedure.
During the VASER® liposuction procedure, Dr. Smart will make a series of tiny incisions around the treatment area. Through these incisions, a small probe will be inserted. This probe emits ultrasonic sound waves that melt fat cells so that they can be suctioned from the body. In a standard liposuction procedure, it is the force of the cannula that breaks up fat cells so that they can be removed from the body. While effective in destroying fat, this technique is also damaging to nerves, blood cells, and the connective tissues that keep skin tight. The sound waves that are used in the VASER® liposuction technique can actually distinguish between fat and other body tissues. This means that only the fat cells are melted while the connective tissues, nerves, and blood vessels remain protected.

Because the ultrasonic VASER® liposuction technique only destroys unwanted fat cells, the entire procedure is much gentler for patients. The benefits of this technique over standard liposuction include the following:

Am I a Candidate?
Patients who are close to their weight goal who have localized areas of fat that require treatment are likely candidates for ultrasonic VASER® liposuction. The VASER® liposuction technique can be performed on any area of the body that would benefit from standard liposuction including the abdomen, hips, thighs, buttocks, knees, and back. Because of the more gentle technique, VASER® liposuction can even be performed on areas of the body not typically recommended for standard liposuction such as the neck, arms, calves, and ankles.
