How Does VASER® Lipo Work?
How Does Smartlipo Triplex™ Work?
Smartlipo Triplex™ is the newest, most advanced form of liposuction used in plastic surgery today. As the least invasive form of liposuction, patients can be in and out in a single appointment, and even return to work the next day with minimal swelling, bleeding, and bruising. Using a tiny 1 millimeter cannula, much smaller than the one used in standard liposuction procedures, a laser fiber is inserted beneath the skin and swept through the area containing fat cells. When the laser energy is applied to the cells, the cells burst, and the resulting fat is passed out of the body or suctioned out. How Is VASER® Lipo Ultrasonic Liposuction Different from Standard Liposuction?
VASER® Lipo, which is a form of ultrasonic liposuction, is the most technologically advanced ultrasonic-assisted liposuction (UAL) used in plastic surgery today. It utilizes sound waves that are emitted through a very small probe to melt the fat cells before they are suctioned out. The sound waves are selective to the fat cells and do not damage the very important connective tissue which leads to better skin tightening as compared to standard liposuction. Because it is a gentler procedure, blood vessels and nerves are also not damaged. This leads to less bruising, pain, and recovery period after ultrasonic liposuction by VASER® Lipo. Standard suction-assisted liposuction (SAL) utilizes a cannula attached to a vacuum to remove fat from the body. It solely relies on the force of the surgeon passing the cannula through the fat cells to remove them, which can be very damaging to the connective tissue. Who Is a Candidate for VASER® Lipo or Smartlipo Triplex™?
Candidates for VASER® Lipo are those who are in good general health, have reasonable and attainable expectations, and are reasonably close to their normal weight. Candidates for Smartlipo Triplex™ are those who have more localized areas of fat and are also close to their normal, ideal weight. Liposuction is not intended to be a form of weight loss.
What Areas of the Body Can Be Treated with Ultrasonic Liposuction?
Any area of the body that can be treated with standard liposuction is amenable to VASER® Lipo. This includes the abdomen, hips, waistline, back, outer thighs, inner thighs, and knees. Areas that were seldom treated before with standard liposuction are now commonly treated with VASER® Lipo and Smartlipo Triplex™ because of its gentle nature. These areas include the neck, arms, calves, and ankles. It is also superior to standard liposuction for male breast reduction to treat gynecomastia, fibrous or tough areas, or areas that have been treated before.
What Is the Liposuction Consultation Like?
Dr. Smart is dedicated to listening to you to learn your goals and the expectations of your surgery. After doing this and determining if you are a suitable candidate, he will develop a customized plan to help you achieve your goals utilizing ultrasonic liposuction. Where Are Incisions Placed for Smartlipo Triplex™ and VASER® Lipo?
They are placed in inconspicuous areas such as natural skin creases and areas that are normally covered by clothes, when possible. However, some incisions must be placed in visible places. These are usually very small and heal very well with very minimal scarring.
What Is the Liposuction Experience Like?
Most VASER® Lipo procedures are performed under general anesthesia. At the discretion of Dr. Smart, some cases are performed under IV sedation. Anesthesia is administered by board-certified anesthesiologists. Most cases are performed as an outpatient in the fully accredited ambulatory surgery center located conveniently in Dr. Smart's professional building. Smartlipo Triplex™ procedures are performed both in-office and under anesthesia, depending on the number of areas to be treated and amount to be removed.
Following surgery, you will wear a compression garment that will aid healing. In most instances, you can shower the next day. You will wear your garment continuously for one week and then intermittently thereafter for a total of six weeks. With VASER® Lipo, most people return to work in seven to 10 days, depending on the extent of the surgery and the amount of fat removed. With Smartlipo Triplex™, most people return to work in two to three days. Dr. Smart will see you three to four days after your liposuction and then at one, three, and six weeks after surgery. He then will see you at three, six, and nine months post-surgery. Most patients are back to full activity between four and six weeks after LipoSelection™ and between two and three weeks after Smartlipo Triplex™.
