Dr. Smart dedicates a large portion of his practice to breast surgery. His goal, whether performing cosmetic or reconstructive surgery, is to create or maintain the natural shape and contour of the breast while eliminating any existing asymmetries. For reconstructive breast surgery, Dr. Smart will discuss all of your options of using your own tissue or breast implants and recommend the best for you. He was trained by one of the pioneers of tissue expansion and has performed numerous reconstructions of this type. For breast augmentation, he can place your implants through one of several incisions and he specializes in the transaxillary (through the armpit) endoscopic breast augmentation. Dr. Smart currently has approval to perform breast reconstruction, implant exchanges, and some augmentations with silicon implants if you enroll in a clinical study under FDA guidelines. Currently, saline implants are being used for new breast augmentations. Dr. Smart is a board certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon with over eight years of experience in reconstructive and cosmetic breast surgery.
