Breast Lift Surgery in the Frisco and Plano, Texas Area

Breast lift, or mastopexy, is a surgical procedure that lifts the breast tissue and nipple restoring a more youthful appearance. It is effective at treating breast sagging that can be caused by age, childbearing and breast feeding, and significant weight loss. Plastic surgeon Dr. Ken Smart can perform a breast lift using several methods, but all include removing excess skin. The areola is also reduced in size during a mastopexy. Breast tissue is not removed, therefore, volume of the breast is not reduced. For women that want to augment the volume of their breasts, silicone or saline breast implants can be placed at the time of the breast lift. If you live in Plano, Frisco, or any of the surrounding Texas communities, and you’d like to learn more about the breast lift procedure, contact Frisco Plastic Surgery today.

Am I a Good Candidate for a Breast Lift?

Women that have developed ptosis, or breast drooping, and have good skin quality are candidates for mastopexy. Women with very large breasts may be better suited for a breast reduction or even a breast reduction combined with a breast lift. Similarly, a breast enlargement can be performed in combination with breast lift surgery. Patients who visit our Frisco office near Plano should be non-smokers and in good health. Dr. Smart will discuss your desires with you and determine what your expectations are from surgery. This combined with a thorough examination will determine if you are a good candidate.

What Are the Scars Like After Mastopexy?

There are multiple ways to perform a breast lift. The determining factor is the amount of extra skin that you have and how far your nipple needs to be elevated. Patients with minimal excess skin may be a good candidate for a doughnut mastopexy. This type leaves the least scarring, with the resultant scar just around the border of the areola. For women who need their nipple raised a little further and have slightly more extra skin, a lollipop mastopexy is an option. There is a circular scar around the areola and a vertical scar below it. The anchor-type scar is reserved for women who need maximum elevation of the nipple and who have a large amount of excess skin. It adds a horizontal scar at the bottom of the lollipop scar.

How Long Will My Breast Lift Results Last?

The results of a breast lift are never permanent. With time, gravity will take its toll and your breasts will droop again. Other factors can lead to recurrence, as well. These include weight loss and weight gain as well as subsequent pregnancy and breast feeding.

Will I Need Breast Implants as Well?

Sometimes breast implants are placed in conjunction with a mastopexy. This is done in women who desire their breasts to be larger in addition to being lifted. Also, some breast lift patients have lost so much of their breast volume secondary to breast feeding that an implant is required to give an aesthetically pleasing result.

Can I Breast Feed after a Breast Lift?

If you are planning on having more children and breast feeding in the future, a breast lift should be delayed. Pregnancy and breast feeding can reverse the results gained by a mastopexy.

What Will My Mastopexy Consultation Be Like?

Dr. Smart will discuss with you what specifically you don't like about your breasts. He will determine if it is purely a problem with breast drooping or if there is also an issue with breast volume. He will discuss your past medical history with you asking you questions about prior breast surgery and any family history of breast cancer. Prior mammogram results will be discussed. He will then perform a physical examination analyzing the degree of breast drooping that you have. He will examine you for the quality of your skin as well as the volume of breast tissue. Several measurements of your breasts are taKenthat will aid in planning your specific surgery.

Your complimentary cosmetic consultation may also include a discussion of other procedures that you may be interested in. Many of our breast lift patients are also interested in other “Mommy Makeover” procedures such as a tummy tuck, liposuction, or body lift . Our “Mommy Makeover” patients are also occasionally interested in rejuvenating facial procedures such as facelift, brow lift, eyelid lift, or BOTOX® Cosmetic.

How Long Will My Recovery Be After a Breast Lift?

Most women are able to return to work in three to five days. Pain is minimal and is easily treated with oral pain medication. Most women can return to light exercise in three to four weeks and to full activity in six weeks.

What Will My Breast Lift Experience Be Like?

Dr. Smart typically uses general anesthesia for breast lift surgery. Your surgery is performed in a fully accredited outpatient surgery center located conveniently in Dr. Smart's professional building. You will have nothing to eat or drink the morning of surgery except specific medications as prescribed by Dr. Smart. You will be asked to arrive at the surgery center one hour before your surgery. A board certified physician anesthesiologist will meet you and take your history before the anesthetic begins. Dr. Smart will also see you and mark you for your surgery.

After your surgery, you will be discharged home. You will need someone to drive you and be with you for the next 24 hours. You will be sent home in a bra compression garment that is easily concealed under your clothes and is worn for approximately four weeks. Four to five post-op visits will be required.

Have Much Will My Breast Lift Cost?

At the end of your complimentary breast lift consultation, Dr. Smart's patient coordinator will go over the fees with you. Your quote will include the surgeon's fee, the anesthesiologist fee, the facility fee, and implant fees if you choose to have breast enlargement during the same surgical appointment.
