Breast Enlargement and Augmentation in the Frisco and Plano, Texas Area

Breast augmentation is a safe and effective way to enhance the appearance of a woman’s breasts. There are many reasons that a patient chooses to have breast enlargement. These range from hypomastia (small breasts), the effects of pregnancy and breast feeding, weight loss, the normal aging process, and pre-existing asymmetries. Breast enlargement often gives women a boost in confidence as well as an overall higher self esteem after breast augmentation. If you are interested in breast enlargement, contact Frisco Plastic Surgery today. Our patients from Plano, McKinney, Allen, Frisco, and the surrounding Dallas communities enjoy beautiful plastic surgery results, the expertise of experienced plastic surgeon Ken Smart, and the comfort of an office that feels like home.

How Is Breast Enlargement Performed?

The breast augmentation procedure involves placing a saline or silicone implant into the breast to change both the shape and size of the breast. Recently, silicone breast implants have been approved again by the FDA for cosmetic use. There are a couple different incisions that may be made to place the breast implant, depending on which type of implant you use. Dr. Smart can help you decide which type of implant will best fit your needs and give you the most natural results.

Am I a Good Candidate for Breast Augmentation?

Breast augmentation can improve your overall appearance and how you feel about yourself. If you have realistic expectations and are in good health you are probably a good candidate for the procedure. The best candidates for breast enlargement are those who want to enhance the shape and size of their breasts but also understand the possible risks involved. For a personalized complimentary plastic surgery consultation concerning candidacy for breast enhancement and augmentation, contact our office in Frisco near Plano. Dr. Smart will sit down with you, examine you, and discuss whether or not you are a good candidate for the procedure.

What Incisions Are Used to Place Breast Implants?

Dr. Smart places breast implants through three different incision locations. These include the periareolar, inframammary, and transaxillary incisions. Incision placement is determined by several factors including anatomy, type of implant, and patient preference. The periareolar incision is the incision around the nipple. It is a very popular incision location due the fact it is almost not noticeable once it heals. The inframammary incision is located at the bottom of the breasts and is also camouflaged very well. Some women do not want any incisions placed on the breasts and the transaxillary incision is a good choice for them. This incision is in the armpit and leaves no scars on the breasts; however, this incision can't be used with silicone implants. Dr. Smart also offers the transaxillary endoscopic approach for women who want to avoid any scars on their breasts.

Will My Breast Implants Be Placed Below or Above the Muscle?

Dr. Smart carefully analyzes the characteristics of each patient’s skin and breast tissue to determine the correct placement of breast implants. Most saline and silicone implants are placed under the muscle to provide an extra layer of protection.

What Will My Breast Enlargement Consultation Be Like?

During your complimentary breast augmentation consultation at our Frisco office, Dr. Smart will discuss your goals and expectations for your surgery, focusing on any prior breast problems or breast enlargement surgery. He will also ask you about your family history of breast cancer and whether or not you have had any prior mammograms. He will then perform a physical examination carefully analyzing the characteristics of your skin and breast tissue. He will also take several measurements that aid in planning your surgery and will also determine if you are a candidate for a breast lift as well. You'll then look at multiple different styles and sizes of implants to determine the size that is appropriate for you. Remember that it is helpful to bring photographs of women with breasts similar to the size that you would like to have.

What Will My Breast Augmentation Surgery Be Like?

Dr. Smart uses the On-Q® PainBuster® for most of his patients undergoing breast enlargement at his Plano-area office. This device dramatically reduces post-op pain and increases comfort by providing continuous infusion of local anesthetic to the surgical site. Patients get back on their feet quicker and have an overall better operative experience. However, it is normal to experience tightness and heaviness on your chest for several days following your surgery.

Dr. Smart typically uses general anesthesia for breast augmentation surgery. Your surgery is performed in a fully accredited outpatient surgery center located conveniently in Dr. Smart's professional building. You will have nothing to eat or drink the morning of surgery except specific medications as prescribed by Dr. Smart. Typically, you will arrive at the surgery center one hour before your surgery. A board certified physician anesthesiologist will meet you and take your history before the anesthetic begins. Dr. Smart will also see you and mark you for your surgery.

After your surgery, you will be discharged home. You will need someone to drive you and be with you for the next 24 hours. You will be sent home in a bra compression garment that is easily concealed under your clothes and is worn for approximately four weeks. Four to five post-op visits will be required after your surgery.
