Treatments for Frown Lines: Facial Rejuvenation and Anti-Aging Options By Kenneth Smart Jr. on October 28, 2014

A woman at home smilingDr. Ken Smart has helped countless patients throughout the greater Frisco area get the look that they've always wanted. Many times this can be done through anti-aging procedures such as the brow lift, which targets lines along the forehead, and a traditional facelift, which is ideal for the middle portion of the face.

We'd like to use this blog post to focus on the forehead area. There are multiple treatment options to consider, and the best one for you may not be what you expect.

Causes of Frown Lines

Frown lines are most often caused by the natural aging process. Over time, wrinkles are bound to form on the facial skin, leading you to look older, tired, worried, or angry. Smoking and sun damage can make the frown lines much worse, contributing to the effects of the natural aging process.

There are many different ways that you can have your frown lines addressed, which we cover in some detail below.

Skin Resurfacing for Minor Lines and Wrinkles

If you have minor lines and wrinkles on or around the forehead, skin resurfacing treatment may be ideal. This will involve the gentle removal of the topmost layer of skin to promote the production of collagen and new, healthier skin that is smoother, softer, and free of wrinkles. Skin resurfacing techniques may involve the use of lasers (laser skin resurfacing) or other methods using gentle materials (microdermabrasion).

BOTOX® Injections Can Reduce Those Wrinkles

BOTOX® injections are another common option for treating the lines and wrinkles of the forehead. BOTOX® cosmetic works by paralyzing the muscles in the injection site. By doing this, the muscles will not agitate the skin where wrinkles currently are. This leads to the fading of facial wrinkles that were formerly agitated by facial muscles.

The results of BOTOX® injections will last for a few months. Repeat BOTOX® injection treatments can be performed to repeat the anti-aging results.

Brow Lift Surgery as a More Permanent Fix

Also known as a forehead lift, brow lift surgery is specifically designed to take care of frown lines and ridges on the brow. During a brow lift, incision are made along the upper portion of the hairline. Through these incisions, the underlying structures of the forehead are adjusted and excess skin is removed. The remaining skin on the forehead is pulled tighter to make the wrinkles disappear.

Full recovery from brow lit surgery will take a few weeks, but patients are generally able to return to work after one week. Full pre-op and post-op instructions will be provided during a consultation at the practice.
